This week went by so fast! I was able to complete all of my lessons in the unit but was crunched for time. The final project (culminating task) was assembling a book made up of all the assignments done throughout the unit. The cover of their book was a print that they made inspired by Norvsl Morrissuea. The books ended up looking great, but the lesson was a bomb. I learned that grade 5 and 6 students don't know how to keep track of their stuff. Note to self: in the future collect all work after each assignment.
Over the past 3 weeks I've learned a lot about teaching, and a lot about grade 7s. I'm having an amazing experience and learning some valuable skills through trial and error. This blog will help prepare you for grade 7s, and the challenges and rewards you will face.
Leaving stuff behind is not necessarily a grade 5/6 thing. It depends on the group - some are so anal about their belongings. For example our midtown group leaves lots of things behind in class - and they loose track of it. It's an individual thing which then influences the group - having a few people like this will create a classroom of forgetful kids. Just think of strategies to assist them ous was put it in the closet!
